Privacy notice
This notice describes what this build of the site actually does, not what a template site might do. Analytics runs cookieless with every consent signal denied by default — no cookie, no identifier, aggregated pings only — and there is no advertising, no account system, no lookup and no form submission anywhere on it.
The short version
Who the controller is
The publisher of this site is the controller for any personal data processed through it. Contact: info@finemeter.co.uk. Company particulars are added once the operator supplies them; until then the About page shows that row as an explicit gap rather than an invented entry.
What is processed, and on what basis
Calculator inputs. Nothing you enter into a calculator on this site is transmitted, logged or stored. The pages are static and the calculations run in your browser, so there is no processing by us at all.
Server logs. Serving a web page necessarily involves your device’s IP address reaching the server. Where such logs exist they are kept for security and operational purposes on the basis of legitimate interests, and they are not used to build a profile of you or combined with anything else.
Email. If you write to the address above, we process your message and your address in order to reply to it — that is the whole purpose, and it is the basis.
Analytics. This site uses Google Analytics 4, provided by Google Ireland Ltd., configured with Consent Mode v2 so that every storage signal is DEFAULT-DENIED — for every visitor, in every country, with no regional exception. In that state no analytics cookie is set, no identifier is stored on or read from your device by Google’s tag, and measurement is limited to cookieless, aggregated pings — that is why this site shows no cookie banner. Your IP address is processed by Google in the course of delivering the measurement request; how Google handles data is described at policies.google.com/privacy. The lawful basis is legitimate interests (Article 6(1)(f) UK GDPR) in cookieless, aggregate audience measurement. Under PECR, no information about you is stored on your device on an ordinary visit, so no consent requirement is triggered. One read does take place, and it is named rather than passed over: on every page view our own measurement code looks in your browser for the gr_int flag that keeps our own testing out of the figures. It is a single switch rather than an identifier, it is written only after a visit with ?internal=1 appended, and the cookie page describes it in full. There is no advertising and no cross-site tracking.
What is NOT processed
No analytics cookie is set on this build and no identifier is stored by its measurement; there is no advertising on it and no cross-site tracking. This site never asks for a driving licence number, a National Insurance number, a notice reference or a date of birth, and it renders no lookup form of any kind. It has no account system, so there is nothing to sign in to and no profile to hold.
How long anything is kept
Operational logs are kept only as long as they are useful for security and operations. Email correspondence is kept as long as needed to deal with the matter it concerns. Analytics measurements exist only as cookieless aggregates within Google Analytics — they contain no identifier that could be traced back to you. Nothing else is retained, because nothing else is collected.
Your rights
Under the UK GDPR and the Data Protection Act 2018 you have the right to ask what personal data is held about you, to have it corrected, to have it erased, to restrict or object to its processing, and to receive it in a portable form. Where processing rests on consent, you may withdraw that consent at any time.
Given how little this site processes, most of those rights will have very little to operate on — but they apply, and a request to the address above will be answered.
Complaining
If you think this site has handled your personal data wrongly, you can complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office, the UK supervisory authority, at ico.org.uk. You do not have to raise it with us first, though we would rather you did so we can fix it.
